Egypt has unveiled an ambitious $500 billion “Team Africa” initiative, designed to mobilise large-scale investment into nearly 300 development projects across the continent. The proposal seeks to close Africa’s persistent financing gap while addressing structural challenges including poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, and energy shortages. The initiative is positioned as a coordinated continental effort to unlock capital through strengthened public-private partnerships and multilateral engagement. Under Egypt’s chairmanship of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), the agency expanded its operational budget, secured fresh funding, and successfully passed the European Union’s institutional assessment — a milestone that enhances credibility with international financiers. As part of the broader push, Cairo pledged $100 million in seed funding for the Nile Basin region, signalling its intent to strengthen regional cooperation in water security and economic development. Egypt also announced plans to host an African Business Summit aimed at accelerating investment partnerships between governments and private sector players.
