Kavango Resources Appoints Mining Veteran Jasper Musadaidzwa as Chief Executive Officer to Drive Regional Expansion
Kavango Resources has appointed industry veteran Jasper Musadaidzwa as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, effective immediately. The strategic leadership change aims to bolster the company's mining operations and transition the business toward sustainable, cash-generative production in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa.
Kavango Resources has officially named Jasper Musadaidzwa as its new Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, taking effect immediately. The Southern Africa-focused metals exploration and gold production company made the appointment as it actively seeks to expand its mining operations across the region. Donald McAlister, who previously served as Non-Executive Chairman and Interim CEO, has transitioned to the role of Executive Chairman following the leadership announcement.
Musadaidzwa brings more than 27 years of extensive mining industry experience to the position, which includes 17 years spent at AngloGold Ashanti in senior operational and executive roles across the African continent. Most recently, he operated as Senior Vice President of AngloGold Ashanti’s Guinea Business Unit, where he spearheaded a comprehensive operational and financial turnaround. During that tenure, he successfully extended the operation's mine life from 2026 to 2034, doubled its net present value, and returned the business to sustainable cash generation.
His extensive background also includes serving as Senior Vice President of Operations for AngloGold Ashanti’s Africa Region, where he oversaw four mines spanning Ghana, Tanzania, Mali, and Guinea. Those collective operations produced approximately 1.1 million ounces of gold annually, generated roughly $2 billion in revenue, and employed more than 14,000 people. His earlier career milestones feature roles such as Managing Director and General Manager of the Iduapriem Gold Mine in Ghana, Operations Manager at the Siguiri Gold Mine in Guinea, and senior technical positions at the Geita Gold Mine in Tanzania, alongside experience at Anglo American’s Skorpion Zinc Mine in Namibia and the start of his career in Zimbabwe.
With Musadaidzwa now at the helm, the company will focus initially on strengthening its operational capabilities within Zimbabwe. The strategic objective is to advance the business toward becoming a sustainable, cash-generative mining company while continuing to explore the broader portfolio potential. Executive Chairman Donald McAlister noted that the appointment serves as a strong endorsement of Kavango's potential as the firm builds on its established operational platform in the country.
Why This Matters
The appointment of an executive with a proven track record in operational turnarounds marks a critical inflection point for mid-tier mining companies operating within Southern Africa. Transitioning from early-stage exploration to sustainable, cash-generative production requires rigorous technical oversight and deep familiarity with regional regulatory and logistical frameworks. By securing a leader who has managed complex multi-jurisdictional assets generating billions in revenue, Kavango signals its ambition to scale operations efficiently while maintaining strict financial discipline across its portfolio.
Furthermore, leadership continuity and regional expertise directly influence investor confidence, particularly in capital-intensive sectors like gold production and metals exploration. Musadaidzwa's history of extending mine lifespans and doubling net present values in challenging operational environments demonstrates the mechanics required to build long-term corporate value. For the broader Southern African mining ecosystem, executive movements of this caliber highlight the ongoing strategic focus on local operational capability, asset optimization, and the systematic reduction of project execution risk.
