Cape Media Restructures Leadership with Senior Executive Appointments Across Broadcast Operations
Cape Media has announced key leadership changes, appointing June Akinyi Ndinya as acting Chief Executive Officer and Keneth Kadzomba Kazungu as acting Editor-in-Chief. The executive transition comes as the parent company of TV 47, Radio 47, and Cape Studios prepares for permanent recruitment.
Cape Media has officially announced major leadership changes across its executive suite, naming June Akinyi Ndinya as acting Chief Executive Officer and Keneth Kadzomba Kazungu as acting Editor-in-Chief. The transition follows the departure of the executives who previously held the positions, marking a new chapter for the parent company behind prominent broadcast and production assets including TV 47, Radio 47, and Cape Studios. The changes were formally announced on Saturday, October 10, as the organization prepares to initiate recruitment processes for permanent office holders for both crucial roles.
June Akinyi Ndinya steps into the role of acting Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect, taking over the organization's overall leadership from Mwenda Njoka, who had led the company since June 2024. Prior to this appointment, Ndinya served as the company's Creative Director, bringing an extensive background of more than 24 years in Kenya's media and film industry to her new responsibilities. Her distinguished portfolio includes work on notable productions such as MTV Shuga Mashariki, Selina, Flash Squad, Mali, Machachari, and the International Emmy Awards 2025 nominated production Prefects, alongside NGen. The board cited her leadership abilities, deep knowledge of the media industry, and familiarity with the strategic direction of the company as foundational to her selection.
Alongside the executive leadership update, Keneth Kadzomba Kazungu has been appointed acting Editor-in-Chief following the exit of Simon Macharia Gachuru. Kazungu previously served as Managing Editor and Deputy Editorial Director, accumulating 16 years of hands-on experience spanning reporting, anchoring, editing, and newsroom leadership. In his new capacity, he will oversee editorial operations to ensure the enterprise maintains high standards of accuracy, fairness, balance, and accountability in its journalism. The board expressed absolute confidence in his ability to maintain editorial stability and protect the credibility of Cape Media's prominent brands throughout the transition period.
The announcement was detailed in an official memo signed by board representative Farida Karoney. The communication formally acknowledged and thanked both Mwenda Njoka and Simon Macharia Gachuru for their valuable contributions during their respective tenures. Furthermore, the board confirmed that the recruitment process for substantive replacements will proceed concurrently as the newly appointed acting executives assume their daily operational duties to maintain seamless business continuity across all media platforms and studios.
Why This Matters
Executive transitions in major media houses carry immediate implications for operational continuity, strategic direction, and public credibility. When leadership shifts occur in prominent broadcasting networks, maintaining a steady hand at the helm becomes paramount for preserving audience trust and protecting institutional reputation. In competitive media markets, the integrity of newsroom operations directly influences viewer loyalty and commercial viability.
Internal promotions of seasoned professionals signal an organizational commitment to recognizing institutional knowledge and creative expertise. By elevating individuals with decades of industry experience, the board ensures that leadership remains closely aligned with the practical realities of production, broadcasting, and editorial management. This continuity is vital for safeguarding brand equity during times of governance transitions.
