President William Ruto has confirmed that the government will soon begin construction of a modern arena in Nairobi, to be delivered in partnership with the private sector. Speaking during the signing of a KSh 80 billion cooperation agreement, the President stated that the arena project is part of broader infrastructure plans aimed at positioning Nairobi as a regional hub for sports, entertainment, conferences, and international events. The facility is expected to enhance Kenya’s capacity to host global tournaments, exhibitions, and large-scale business gatherings. In addition, President Ruto reiterated that the long-awaited new airport project in Nairobi will be rolled out within the next couple of months. The airport development is intended to expand aviation capacity, improve passenger experience, and support Kenya’s ambition to strengthen its role as an aviation and logistics gateway for East and Central Africa. Both projects are expected to leverage public-private partnerships (PPPs), reflecting the government’s increasing reliance on private capital to accelerate infrastructure development while managing fiscal constraints. The arena and airport initiatives align with Kenya’s broader urban development and economic transformation agenda, with a focus on tourism growth, regional connectivity, job creation, and increased foreign investment.
