Kenya Strengthens National Health Security: Launch of Integrated Strategic Frameworks (2026–2030)

On Friday, March 27, 2026, the Ministry of Health unveiled a robust new architecture for national health security. Central to this launch is the Kenya National Public Health Institute (KNPHI) Strategic Plan (2026–2030) and the National Action Plan for Health Security (NAPHS II). These frameworks establish a unified national system for the preparedness, detection, and response to health emergencies, moving away from reactive crisis management toward an anticipatory model anchored in real-time data. The initiative introduces several critical tools, including the Decision-Making Tool for Public Health Emergencies (DMT-PHE) and a Digital Public Health Surveillance Strategy. By integrating surveillance, laboratory systems, and emergency operations into a single coordinated hub, Kenya aims to meet the global "7-1-7" targets—identifying an outbreak within 7 days, reporting it within 1 day, and initiating an effective response within 7 days.
