Majmuatul Khairat Steps Up Humanitarian Response as Drought Worsens Across Kenya

Kenya is facing an escalating humanitarian challenge as severe drought conditions extend beyond the arid north into counties such as Kajiado, Tana River, Kilifi, and parts of North Eastern Kenya. The prolonged dry spell has resulted in livestock losses, distress sales for animal feed, water scarcity, and growing food insecurity, placing increased pressure on already vulnerable communities. Amid these worsening conditions, Majmuatul Khairat has intensified its grassroots humanitarian response, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to serving communities affected by hardship. On 7 February, the Majmuatul Khairat team visited Tana River County, where they laid the foundation stones for two new mosques and officially opened one completed mosque. The visit brought together local villagers, elders, and leaders for congregational prayers, including special supplications for beneficial rain, unity, and resilience during the drought period. Beyond spiritual support, the organisation has taken practical steps to address the water crisis. Just days earlier, Majmuatul Khairat unveiled its flagship borehole vehicle, a major operational milestone that will enable the organisation to drill boreholes directly in drought-affected and remote communities. The initiative is expected to significantly improve access to clean and sustainable water for households, livestock, schools, and mosques. In parallel, Majmuatul Khairat has officially launched its #FeedAFamily campaign, mobilising resources to provide food rations to families facing acute food shortages. The programme aims to cushion affected households during the peak of the drought while longer-term water solutions are rolled out. The organisation’s integrated approach — combining faith-based community engagement, water infrastructure, and food relief — reflects a holistic humanitarian model rooted in dignity, sustainability, and local participation. As relief distribution remains limited in many affected regions, such initiatives are becoming increasingly vital.
