Majmuatul Khairat Launches #FeedAFamily Relief for 6,000 Households in Tana River

Amidst a deepening drought crisis in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL), the Majmuatul Khairat #FeedAFamily team has mobilized a major humanitarian response in Tana River County. The distribution exercise kicked off yesterday in the northern parts of the county, targeting families currently facing the dual challenge of a severe dry spell and the start of the holy month of Ramadhan. Tana River is currently classified in the "Alert" phase by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), following the near-total failure of the late 2025 short rains. This has left over 200,000 residents in the county food insecure, with livestock losses and water shortages reaching critical levels. The Majmuatul Khairat initiative seeks to bridge the immediate food gap, specifically targeting 6,000 households within a rapid 2–3 day window to ensure families have the necessary supplies for Suhoor and Iftar.  The relief packages typically include essential commodities such as rice, flour, cooking oil, and dates—the latter often supported by international partners like the UAE, who recently dispatched 30 tons of dates to aid drought-hit regions. This distribution comes at a vital time, as Muslim clerics in the Coast region have raised concerns that fasting during such extreme drought poses a high health risk without adequate nutritional support.  While the national government has recently allocated Sh9 billion for drought interventions across 23 counties, the rapid response of organizations like Majmuatul Khairat is crucial for reaching "far-flung" villages that often face delays in centralized aid delivery.
