PZ Cussons Shuffles Board and Executive Leadership with Strategic New Appointments
Consumer goods major PZ Cussons has announced the appointment of Mrs Peju Adebajo and Ms Sarah Miles as Non-Executive Directors to strengthen its board expertise. Meanwhile, the firm has named Mr Abel Idonije as People Director for Africa to support regional workforce potential.
PZ Cussons Plc has officially announced the appointments of Mrs Peju Adebajo and Ms Sarah Miles as Non-Executive Directors, introducing significant international, consumer goods, and digital expertise to the corporate board. These strategic appointments are scheduled to take effect immediately following the company Annual General Meeting on October 1, 2026. They arrive to fill the vacancies left by Mr Valeria Juarez and Mr Jitesh Sodha, who will formally step down from their board positions on the exact same day.
According to Mr David Tyler, Chair of PZ Cussons, the incoming directors bring complementary strengths that align with the company trajectory. Mrs Adebajo offers extensive knowledge of the Nigerian market alongside deep international executive experience in listed companies. Currently serving as the Managing Director of Etex Nigeria, her background spans construction materials, agriculture, renewable energy, and banking across Africa and the United Kingdom. Her credentials include previous leadership roles at Lumos Nigeria, Lafarge Africa, and Mouka Ltd, complemented by board positions at FCMB Group Plc and Wolseley Ltd.
Ms Miles brings substantial consumer, brand, and digital capabilities to the boardroom, underscored by her current role as Chief Executive Officer of Hush UK. Her extensive corporate background features a twelve-year tenure at Diageo in brand management and strategy, five years at Amazon culminating as Apparel Director for Fashion in Europe, and leadership of online beauty retailer Feelunique through its acquisition by Sephora. In a parallel operational development, PZ Cussons Nigeria appointed Mr Abel Idonije as People Director for Africa, effective August 26, 2026. Mr Idonije brings human resources leadership experience from Godrej Consumer Products, Reckitt, and Procter and Gamble to the Africa Leadership Team.
Why This Matters
Board restructuring at multinational corporations operating in Africa often signals a deliberate alignment between local operational realities and global digital strategies. Bringing in directors with deep roots in Nigerian industrial sectors alongside leaders with heavy e-commerce and brand scaling experience creates a balanced governance framework. This mix is essential for navigating complex consumer markets where traditional retail channels intersect with emerging digital platforms.
Human capital leadership plays an equally critical role in executing corporate strategy across regional divisions. By integrating seasoned HR expertise from multinational fast-moving consumer goods backgrounds into the Africa Leadership Team, the company demonstrates an operational focus on workforce development. Cultivating strong local talent pipelines and leadership structures remains a fundamental requirement for maintaining resilience and driving growth across diverse African markets.
