Kenya to Host 2026 World Farmers’ Organisation Annual Meeting

Kenya has been selected to host the 2026 Annual Meeting of the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO), scheduled to take place from 8 to 11 June 2026. The global forum will be organised by the Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture. The meeting, themed “Future Fields: Investing in Farmers’ Organisations and Empowering Communities for Sustainable Agriculture,” is expected to convene delegates from 65 countries, including policymakers, financiers, private sector leaders, scientists, and multilateral agencies. Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Sen. Mutahi Kagwe described the hosting as a major milestone for Kenya, noting that modern farming is no longer subsistence-based but anchored in commercial transformation, decent farmer incomes, youth engagement, and technological innovation. He emphasised that long-term food security and economic growth depend on placing farmers at the centre of national development strategies. WFO Secretary General Andrea Porro highlighted the importance of financing mechanisms that directly reach farmers and guarantee dignified incomes. He noted that attracting young people into agriculture requires stable earnings, access to innovation, and stronger farmer organisations. The 2026 meeting will focus on key themes including youth engagement in agriculture, digital innovation in farming systems, soil health management, fair trade practices, and farmer-focused financing frameworks. It will also provide an opportunity to showcase Kenya’s evolving agricultural ecosystem — from horticulture exports and agritech startups to climate-smart farming solutions. Hosting the global gathering reinforces Kenya’s positioning as a continental leader in farmer-driven, technology-enabled commercial agriculture and strengthens its visibility within international agricultural policy and financing discussions.
