Nairobi County and KNCCI Forge Strategic Alliance to Streamline Operations and Elevate MSMEs

The Nairobi City County Government has entered into a strategic partnership with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry designed to lower the cost of doing business in the capital. Unveiled on Friday, August 28, the initiative directly targets micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, artisans and manufacturers. The agreement seeks to alleviate compliance costs, streamline licensing procedures, and unlock fresh pathways to capital and markets for operators navigating the urban economy.

Anchored on a programme titled Jenga Biz, Jenga Nairobi: Partnering for a Thriving Nairobi Economy, the collaboration translates policy commitments into tangible economic outcomes through structured engagement between municipal authorities and private sector stakeholders. A central component of this rollout is the newly launched Trade Fair Digital Portal. This digital platform allows enterprises to register as trade fair exhibitors, select sponsorship packages, and access logistics information online to improve transparency and visibility.

Speaking at the announcement, Nyalita stated that the county administration is pivoting away from a purely regulatory stance towards an active facilitation role. The focus centers on reducing compliance burdens and fostering a predictable operating environment, allowing business owners to concentrate on commercial expansion. KNCCI Programs Director Maxwell Okoth added that structured policy roundtables will anchor the framework, moving the relationship between government and enterprise from mere dialogue to actionable execution.

To formalise these commitments, the two parties are finalising a binding Memorandum of Understanding to establish monitoring mechanisms for ease-of-doing-business reforms. A Business Breakfast Forum scheduled for September 17 will precede a major trade fair, serving to strengthen supply chain linkages and connect local manufacturers and artisans with institutional investors, credit providers, and regional buyers.
