Prudence Madiba Takes the Helm at SANEDI to Drive South Africa Energy Transformation

The South African National Energy Development Institute has officially welcomed Prudence Madiba as its new Chief Executive Officer following Cabinet approval. Bringing over two decades of electrical engineering experience from Eskom, Madiba steps into the executive role at a pivotal moment for South Africa as the country accelerates efforts to restructure its power system, expand renewable generation, and improve grid reliability. SANEDI Board Chairperson Sicelo Xulu noted that the appointment strengthens the institute to deliver credible, evidence based solutions for government and industry during a major national transition.

Madiba transitions to SANEDI after serving as General Manager for Research, Testing and Development at Eskom, where she directed technical strategy, research and innovation, operational improvement, and capability development. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from the University of KwaZulu Natal, alongside a Graduate Diploma in Engineering in Industrial from the University of the Witwatersrand, a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Pretoria, and an Executive Development Program completion from Duke University. She is also currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Engineering at Stellenbosch University.

Beyond her corporate responsibilities, Madiba is heavily engaged in professional governance as President of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers, where she chairs its Executive and Council Committees. Her past leadership includes serving on the Engineering Council of South Africa as Chairperson of its Registration Committee. She also maintains active involvement with the EPRI Research Advisory Committee, previously contributed to the Executive Committee of the International Centre for Sustainable Coal, and served as technical lead for Priority 1 of South Africa's 2025 G20 Energy Transitions Working Group. The SANEDI Board expressed gratitude to Professor Prathaban Moodley for his stewardship as Acting Chief Executive Officer during the transition period.
